Problem: We have only two choices in most elections and if there is a third candidate- we say don’t waste your vote on that person because it will not count. The media labels candidates for this issue or against that issue, without a complete analysis of all the candidate’s views on the important issues or the day versus the other candidates. I call this the gerrymandering of the human mind. If there are 15 issues to discuss, the media in order to defeat a candidate- picks the one that you may disagree with and do not review the 14 issues you may agree with the candidate.
Solution: The government must demand that all media give equal time and completely describe each candidate’s position on the topics at issue. If we want to eliminate spin doctors and fake news and have a democracy. I would suggest ranked voting in all elections so no vote is wasted.
A great description of the convoluted process of electing our representatives I found on a TedTalk

We need the people to decide who gets to run as well as who wins the election !
