Problem: In our current democracy, citizens have very little influence on politicians. All our politician’s need money to run for elections and so offers of contributions to there campaign’s finances can seriously alter politicians actions when voting on issues affecting citizens.
Corporation’s funds are vast in comparison to citizen’s funds. PAC’s Political action committees put most politicians in their seats of power and are thus beholden to their wishes. Political think tanks both left and right not only influence politicians but the judges on the Supreme Court.
Ex-politicians get their next jobs as lobbyists- utilizing their knowledge and connections in congress to influence their new positions as “The Lobbyists “
This Lobbyist System is organized corruption and clearly diminishes citizen’s influence. Thereby converting Democracy into a “Moneyocracy”. A Democracy of the money influencers.
Not only do they influence the sources of power in the government but use their money to take out ad’s to convince citizens what is best for them.!
Solutions: Make lobbying or influence peddling a criminal offense by outlawing the practice. Only private citizens can write to their Congressmen to convince them of their positions but cannot send money to influence them.
All elections would be funded by the government once someone running for office qualifies by obtaining a certain number of petitions signed by verified citizens.
Wealthy individuals cannot use their own monies for their campaigns. All Media must by law provide free and equal coverage of all candidates with public debates televised to the citizens of the respective regions involved. Democracy should be a battle if ideas 💡 not 💰 money !
